Kindergarten Reflections

Kindergarten has been using scissors and glue to create beautiful buildings on the edge of the water. They added reflections and waves, and look how great they turned out! These samples are all from Mrs. Densa's class.

Welcome Back to the Art Room !

We are jumping right in to a project to celebrate The International Day of Peace on September 21st. Every grade level in the Lower Division is working on a different project to express our desire for peace and peacefulness. The fourth graders drew doves, using text as line. In this case, the text is all about things that make you feel peaceful. Once the text was completed, the children used watercolors to add contrast to the negative space (the space around the dove). Aren't they beautiful?!

Second Grade Artwork Goes to NY and Australia!

As part their study of the continent of Australia, our second graders are participating in the Pollyzoon international exchange with the Early Learning Center at the University of Melbourne in Australia. The children at the University program in Australia sent us a beautiful book filled with their illustrations of animals native to Australia.

Paula Allen, artist and friend of Shorecrest, has asked for our help. She is going to make a mural of animals from the United States, and Shorecrest is providing artwork that will represent the animals from the Southeastern region with a focus on the tropical creatures of Florida and the Everglades. Children in NY will be providing artwork with a focus on the Northern United States.

Our students' artwork will be scanned and sent via email to Ms. Allen. She will assemble the artwork into one piece and send the original to Australia, and a copy to the World Awareness Children's Museum in Glen Falls, NY. This museum is one of the only museums dedicated to children's international art exchanges. Our piece will just be visiting.

The photos on this post are samples of the artwork that will be included in the project. How exciting!

The Sketchbook Project

Before the break, I signed up to participate in "The Sketchbook Project". I would love to have some of my students sign up as well. It's completely voluntary and is open to ALL ages. Maybe some of you adults out there would like to join in? You can sign up for as little as $25 up to $75. Let me hear from you if you have any questions. Here's the link!
