No More Wishy Washy Watercolors!

I spent the last three days at an amazing watercolor workshop. Janet King led the workshop as part of Central Art Supply's Artista Project. There were only five of us in the class so we all got lots of individual attention. Hooray for small class sizes! Janet is a fabulous artist and I feel like I learned a great deal. She paints very wet, which is kind of scary at first...then very freeing. I loved it!

Second Graders study American Pop artist,Andy Warhol

The Lower Division art room turned into a factory, similar to Andy Warhol's studio which was called "The Factory". Each student pulled four prints from their own original printing plates. Next week, we'll be adding colored pencil to add contrast.

Textile and Fiber Arts Workshop at Central Art Supply

I just attended a great workshop at Central Art Supply in downtown St. Petersburg. A representative from Jacquard led the two day workshop where about eight local artists/students created patterning techniques on fabric. We did silk painting, Shibori, and Indigo dyeing. The pictures shown here are of my personal favorite, the Indigo dyeing. It's tie-dye taken to a new level!

Welcome to the Lower Division art room blog!

Hi, my name is Sue Rowe and I am the art teacher for Kindergarten through fourth grade at Shorecrest Preparatory School. I just love my job! Over the course of the year I will be letting you know what's going on in the visual arts. I'll be posting lots of pictures of the children busy at work, creating beautiful art. Please feel free to comment so I will know how to best utilize this blog. I'm new to this, so bear with me :-) Happy new school year!
